Green Tomatoes

I'm awaiting my first ripe tomato. Here are the green tomatoes on the vine, with their flowers as well. I think the first to ripen will be my Sweet Chelsea Cherry Tomato. There are at least three sprays of green cherry tomatoes on the plant.

I have quite a few green Roma tomatoes on my two plants.

The Pink tomato hasn't set fruit well and currently this is the only fruit developing.

Here is an unknown Heirloom tomato from a mix. It has a nice spray of three fruit set.

I think it is interesting that the Green Zebra flower has light and dark sections, just as the light and dark sections are developing on the fruit. I shared this seed with a friend and her five-year-old daughter asked me last month, "How do you know when a green tomato is ripe?" I don't know the answer to that. I guess we'll just have to see when it is soft and comes easily off the vine.

The Yellow Brandywine Tomato is having trouble with the fruit being malformed and cracking. I had the same problem last year, but I saved the seed because the tomatoes tasted so good. Someday I'll have to invest in better seed stock for this variety.

Looks like those tomatoes were doused with more rain too.

Hang in there. You'll have them ripening soon. When did you harvest the first one last year?

Hi there! Greetings from Wyoming!

Looks like you're going to have some delicious tomatoes before too long!

Very nice photos!

Looking back, I didn't harvest until August 27th or so. That's a long time away. However, August was cool and rainy last year. The heat has set in this week and hopefully that will help things ripen sooner. I better go water the tomatoes.

Nice crop! It is so exciting to see an heirloom spray with three tomatoes.

But at least the heat is here!

I noticed some itty bitty fruit on one of the plants you gave me! Mine are not as far along as yours. They don't get as much TLC as yours do. My main concern is keeping the slugs off them. :P

You will see a change in your green zebras when they are ripe. I was wondering when to pick my german greens, so I looked up the answer a couple of weeks ago. The Green zebras will turn golden and have green stripes. You will really see a color change from that usual grenn unripe tomato color to a nice ripe color.

You have some very nice tomatoes setting. I am dieing to eat a big heirloom tomato. I have had two heirloom ripen and three on the early plant so far but they are just not the same as August ripened ones.
