A Garden Visitor

A welcome visitor in my garden yesterday was this toad. He is only the size of an egg. He was hiding under the row cover where the broccoli and asian greens are growing. There are lots of interesting insects under there. I hope he is eating some of them.

Before we moved to town, my garden had a resident toad. I loved him! I always worried about hurting him with garden tools, but he survived me just fine. I'd always look for him if I was going to be digging, and move him to a safer area of the garden. Once he got into the skimmer basket of our swimming pool, and Mr. Granny got quite the surprise when he opened it to clean it out...there was a big toad staring at him! From that day on, I was appointed to clean out the skimmer :-) I wish I had a resident toad in this garden.

I so love toads in the garden. Anything that will eat slugs gets a big welcome.

Love this guy. I would never see anything like this in my garden - Slugs- yes but a toad. Your harvest looks like mine in a different bowl!

He's lovely ! Sadly, I have neither toad nor frog in my garden. :(

I've been hearing all kinds of croaks from the toads in my backyard at night. I'm hoping they've been hopping around the garden getting some of those slugs.

Hello! What a coincidence! I had a toad in my garden yesterday. He was sitting pretty on my violas and squash plants.

Let me introduce myself. I found your blog through Skippy's Garden. I'm a newlywed with my first home and garden (4 years in). I'm so happy to meet so many other great gardeners!
